Using Google Earth and VOR's to help find Aerocaches.

Google Earth uses True North and Runways & VOR's use Magnetic North.

For Hawaii.

When using the ruler to get heading's there is a 9.7 degrees off set with VOR's.

       

PHTO Runway 26 is at 260.2 degrees magnetic as shown in the airport chart on the left.

When checked in Google Earth you find the centre line of the runway is at 270 True North.

For Alaska.

When using the ruler to get heading's there is a 10 to 22 degrees off set with VOR's.
